Zambia Football Coaches Association (ZaFCA) president Dan Kabwe says Zambian coaches have what it takes to land national team jobs in other African countries because they are among the best trained.

Africa has begun to open up, with several coaches taking up jobs in countries outside their native country.

The latest is Benni McCarthy, who has landed the Kenya job. Kabwe has lauded African countries for opening up to coaches from fellow African countries.

“It is a welcome trend, the time is now when Africans are beginning to see the value that other Africans have and can bring. This is welcome. It will now be left to those coaches to prove themselves,” Kabwe said.

Zambian coaches are marketable- Kabwe

Kabwe said Zambian coaches should position themselves for some of these jobs.

“For us as ZAfCA, it will be about collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure that there are enough training opportunities for our coaches, we need to have more coaches with attractive badges,” Kabwe said.

Kabwe said Zambian coaches are marketable. “Our coaches are marketable, a lot of them have been doing CAF A badges and they are still in the process of upskilling so I have no doubt about that,” he said.

He said there are some coaches who have done and are still doing a good job at foreign clubs in the region.

“We have Kaindu in Zimbabwe, Anderson Phiri in Namibia, Mike Sitole in Botswana who are doing it at club level, what we need is you the media to highlight the work they are doing.

“If they can attract a club, then the potential to attract a national team is there, we just need to highlight the works they are doing,” Kabwe said.

Kabwe said Zambia already has a history of exporting national team coaches like the late Ben Bamfuchile, who once coached Namibia.
