The Parisian duo of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe have been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsman of the year alongside other sporting stars.
The Laureus World Sports Award is an annual award honouring the achievements of individual men in the world of sports.
It was first awarded in the year 2000 and various sporting greats from individual sports have won it.
Previous winners include Usain Bolt, Roger Federer, Tiger Woods, and Novak Djokovic.

In 2020, Messi broke the duck to become the first-ever footballer to land the award. He won it following his Ballon d’Or-winning performances from the previous year.
It was also the first time that the “biggest award in sports” was won by a player from a team sport.

The Argentine maestro is back in contention for the accolade alongside fellow World Cup final hero, Mbappe.
The pair are joined by current award holder Max Verstappen. Tennis legend Rafael Nadal, basketball sensation Steph Curry, and track and field athlete Mondo Duplantis are also in contention.

Messi and Mbappe are also in the running for the FIFA ‘The Best’ award. They are in the race for the award alongside current Ballon d’Or holder Karim Benzema.
The explosive strike partnership made headlines this weekend when they overturned a 3-2 deficit against Lille to claim a 4-3 win at the Parc de Princes.
Mbappe equalized in the 87th minute before Messi scored a winner in the 95th minute with a free-kick.
