Serie A club US Lecce has threatened to take disciplinary action against Lameck Banda over his delayed return to Italy for pre-season.

The club has revealed that the Zambian winger has informed them that the logistical and bureaucratic challenges are preventing his return.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Italian side said Banda, who had been expected to report for the resumption of pre-season training, notified the club that the issues which have kept him away continue to persist.

“Lameck Banda, already called up for the resumption of sporting activities, has informed the club today of the continued logistical and bureaucratic problems that have, until now, prevented his return to Italy,” the club said.

Lecce added that they will investigate the circumstances surrounding the player’s absence before deciding on any further course of action.

“The club will carry out the necessary investigations into the circumstances cited by the player, reserving the right to take any appropriate measures, including disciplinary action, aimed at ensuring the proper fulfilment of his contractual obligations,” the statement added.

Banda remains under contract with Lecce until June 30, 2027.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Italian club during the current transfer window, with Al Youm Newspaper reporting that Al-Fateh have offered him a deal.
