ZPL Women’s Super League log leaders Green Buffaloes Women FC could be docked three points following allegations that they fielded an ineligible player in their 2-1 victory over Green Eagles Women FC in a Week 23 encounter played at NASDEC.
The Zambia Army-sponsored side staged a second-half comeback to secure the win after falling behind to an early goal by Green Eagles. Ruth Moono put the hosts ahead in the 21st minute, giving Green Eagles a deserved lead going into the break.
Green Buffaloes responded strongly in the second half, with Agness Phiri converting from the penalty spot in the 74th minute to restore parity before Regina Kayamboma struck the winner to seal all three points. The victory pushed the Nyanta Girls to 53 points at the summit of the league table, just one point ahead of defending champions ZESCO Ndola Girls.
However, the result is now under a cloud following a complaint lodged by ZISD Football Club, which alleges that Green Buffaloes used a player who is duly registered with them.
In a statement, ZISD FC claimed that Thokozile Daka, a player registered with their club, was fielded by Green Buffaloes Women FC during the match against Green Eagles. The club further alleged that the player may have been used under a different registration.
“We have since been informed that the player is allegedly being used under a different registration, a matter that, if confirmed, raises serious concerns regarding player eligibility and adherence to competition regulations,” read part of the statement.
“We firmly believe in fair play.” – ZISD
ZISD FC emphasised its commitment to fair play and integrity, stating that the matter would be formally reported to both the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and the Zambia Premier League (ZPL) for investigation.
“ZISD Football Club firmly believes in fair play, integrity, and respect for the rules of the game. In that spirit, we wish to assure our great Kwapu Kwapu Nation family that this matter will be formally taken up with both FAZ and ZPL for thorough investigation and appropriate action,” the club stated.
The club added that it trusts due process will be followed and that justice will prevail, promising to provide further updates as the matter develops.
Should the allegations be upheld, Green Buffaloes risk forfeiting the match and losing the three points, a development that could significantly alter the title race as the second run of matches gets tense.
Green Buffaloes and the ZPL have yet to comment on the matter.
