Zambia’s Copper Princesses in pot 3 for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup draw

The Zambian girls could be drawn in the same group as reigning champions Spain or Japan.

The draw for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will take place on Saturday, June 22, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with Zambia’s Copper Princesses eager to learn their opponents.

Zambia is returning to the tournament for the first time since 2014, along with Nigeria and Kenya, their African counterparts.

The Copper Princesses, coached by former Copper Queens player Carol Kanyemba, have been placed in Pot 3 alongside Nigeria, Colombia, and England.

Pot 1 includes the host countries, the Dominican Republic, Spain, Japan, and North Korea. Pot 2 has Brazil, the United States, Mexico, and New Zealand.

Zambia could now be drawn in the same group as reigning champions Spain, who are seeded in Pot 4.

The draw will take place at the Monument to Fray Anton de Montesinos in Santo Domingo.

The 2024 tournament, which runs from October 16 to November 3, will be played in two cities: Santiago and Santo Domingo.

This is the first time the Dominican Republic will host a FIFA tournament.

The 16 teams will be divided into four groups of four. The top two teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals. This will be followed by semi-finals, a third-place match, and the final.

This year will also be the last edition with 16 teams before the number increases to 24 for the following edition.
