The Zambia U-17 Women’s National Team is scheduled to attend an international camp before the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in the Dominican Republic in October. Andrew Kamanga, President of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), announced the development.

The Copper Princesses will return to the World Cup ten years after their debut in Costa Rica in 2014.

Carol Kanyemba’s lasses have been placed in Group D, where they will face formidable opponents including Brazil, Japan, and Poland.

Kamanga emphasized the importance of the international camp. “The under-17 girls will be afforded an international camp where they will play some friendly matches,’ he stated.

FAZ is also considering reinforcing the technical bench to prepare the team for the challenges of modern football.

“Considering the magnitude of the tournament, we will be exploring the possibilities of reinforcing the technical bench to cover some of the aspects that the modern game demands. This will be done in liaison with the technical bench to identify the areas that need to be covered,” Kamanga explained.

FAZ also reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots football development, with a focus on identifying and nurturing new talent. Kamanga stated, “This group of under-17 girls has an opportunity to write their own story in the coming years. We will continue to identify and grow talent through our structured grassroots program anchored on our 10-year strategic plan.”

The team has already regrouped in Lusaka for a local camp. They now await confirmation of their international camp destination and their opponents for the upcoming friendly matches.
