Malawi Women’s Football team coach Lovemore Fazili has asked the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to allow players to be in camp as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals in Morocco.

His comment has also been agreed upon by football commentator Henry Gome, who said the decision will help the players and coach to fix gaps noted during the Cosafa games in Polokwane, South Africa.

The Scorchers of Malawi will face defending champions Nigeria, Egypt, and Zambia in the continental showpiece scheduled for March 18 to April 3 this year.

“I agree with coach Fazili on this,” reacted Gome, adding, “You see, at Cosafa we all noted some gaps which the coach needed to fix. Staying in camp up to the date the team will be leaving for Morocco will surely help the players and coaches,” said Gome.

Fazili said he will ask FAM officials to approve his request.

“Cosafa has helped us with a lot of things we have learnt throughout the matches, and we will use them at Wafcon. Cosafa came at the right time and helped us on our trip to Wafcon. I am happy with all players, mainly the defence.

“I do not think we will break camp; we will continue training, and we are hoping that in two weeks’ time, professional players will be joining us.

“Time is gone already; we are asking FAM to allow us to be in camp from now till we leave for WAFCON,” said Fazili.

He then apologised to supporters for failing to reach the Cosafa final, saying it all happened in order to respect the rules of the game.

“Our focus is now in Morocco and the team is ready,” added Fazili.

The Scorchers finished second in pool A with 6 points from three matches—winning 8-1 against Lesotho and 1-0 against Angola, they lost 2-0 to hosts South Africa.
