Zesco Ndola Girls head coach William Zulu is excited by their 1-0 win over Red Arrows Women, despite low fitness levels on his players, due to the three-week break.

Last season, Zesco Ndola, on a 100 percent, win rate with 27 points from nine matches this season, came second to eventual league winner, Green Buffaloes, who are the league record holders.

In the 2024/25 Zambian Premier League Women’s Super League, Zesco Ndola is undefeated.

“I guess it was a tough one for us because we were off from the ground for almost three weeks. What we needed was just the three points,” he said.

Zulu praised his team’s tenacity in the face of the setback, saying that Charity Mubanga’s injury disrupted the team’s strategy.

“They have done a good job. Charity Mubanga picked a knock, which forced us into an early substitute. It disturbed our game plan a bit, but we fought because those guys came for it too, and they played a very good game. But we managed to win 1-0. It’s a plus,” Zulu said.

Zesco’s next match will be against bottom-placed Choma Warriors, which Zulu termed a ‘tricky’ match while targeting maximum points.

“Another tricky game. It’s a tricky game because we don’t have time to prepare well. Because tomorrow [today], we’re on the road again going back to. So we just have to go home and prepare a bit. We’ll look on that come Sunday; we’ll carry the day,” he stated.

The gaffer states that there is pressure mounting from others following their good start to the season, urging the players to remain focused.

“We just have to work hard. It’s pressure. The pressure is mounting on me because I know those teams that haven’t played they’ll come on us, so we just have to work hard.”
