Ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Alex Morgan, a striker for the United States of America Women’s National Team (USWNT), has provided an update on her ankle condition.
At the upcoming Olympics, the USWNT is in Group B with Australia, Germany, and Zambia. The USNWT will open the tournament against the Copper Queens before meeting Germany and conclude their group fixture against Australia.
Morgan’s recent revelation on her Instagram story will be a boost to the USWNT, which is aiming to clinch a gold medal at the Olympics.
The San Diego Wave striker, who picked up the injury on April 19 during her team’s 1-0 loss to the Orlando Pride, said recovery is going well as she hopes to be back on the field “very soon.” She has been on the sidelines in San Diego’s last three matches.
“Post-training ice for the ankle,” Morgan said. “Recovery is going well and hoping to be back soon.”
Incoming USWNT coach Emma Hayes will be hoping the 34-year-old recovers in time before the start of the Olympics.
With the USWNT team set to play South Korea on June 1 and June 4, Morgan’s fitness will be a great concern as the days to the Olympics draw closer.
The team’s Olympic send-off matches will be against Mexico on July 13 and Costa Rica on July 16.
