Zambia U-20 Women’s National Team will continue their quest for a maiden FIFA World Cup qualification tomorrow when they host Burundi at the Levy Mwanawansa Stadium in Ndola. This will be the second leg of the qualifier, with the Young Copper Queens having secured a 2-1 victory in the first leg last Friday.
Goalkeeper Chishala Mfunte and Ruth Muwowo were on target for Zambia, while Esperance Habonimana scored Burundi’s only goal. The visitors will now be hoping to overturn the deficit in Ndola.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Zambia’s coach Charity Nthala emphasized that her side will not underestimate their opponents despite holding an aggregate lead.
“We are not underrating the Burundian side because they are a good side. We saw how they played in Burundi. So we are just focused, and we just have to win this game. We are not underrating them,” she told a press conference in Ndola on Friday.
Nthala expressed confidence that the home crowd will play a crucial role in lifting her team.
“Our fans should just expect a win from the team tomorrow. Because if they can manage to win away from home it even at home they will play better than they did that side at least we have the 12th player, which is going to boost our girls.”

A win tomorrow would see Zambia advance to the third round of the qualifiers, where they will face Uganda, who eliminated Namibia with a 5-0 aggregate victory. The qualification process will then conclude with a fourth and final round.
Zambia has never qualified for the U-20 Women’s World Cup and will be aiming to make history with their first-ever appearance.
