The Zambia Women’s National Team will compete in the FIFA World Cup for the first time ever at the senior level next month.

In order to be ready for the competition, which will take place in Australia and New Zealand, the Copper Queens are now in Europe.

Coach Perry Mutapa of MTN/FAZ Super League team Napsa Stars has given the Copper Queens technical bench advice to work on team coordination before the World Cup.

According to him, the Copper Queens deserve accolades for becoming the first team in the history of Zambian football to qualify for a senior World Cup.

“Recently, this is the time when we are having a lot of players leaving the country to go and play professional football and it’s not easy, so for me just to go there, I think it’s the first for Zambia and we need to cherish it,” he said on Kwithu FM.

The Napsa Stars tactician added that Zambians should lower their expectations of the girls’ performance at the World Cup.

“We also need to make sure that we include a lot of young players in the team who will be able to participate in future world Cups and by then, they will have enough experience and learned a lot, and if we do well this time, it will be a bonus, but we need to go and learn there,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mutapa is still optimistic that the technical bench will be able to improve the team’s cooperation and coordination.

“I believe that what the team needs is coordination, and because they are all from various clubs, I am sure that the technical bench will provide that. It’s critical that people comprehend their responsibilities; once they do, all that’s left to do is coordinate, and everything will be OK,” he remarked.
