Just days after BolaNews broke the story of an alleged sexual scandal involving the Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the issue has sparked significant response within Malawi.

According to a source who spoke to BolaNews, both the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) and the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) contacted the victim last Saturday to record official statements.

The allegations implicate Daudi Mtanthiko—a FAM executive member and senior official—who served as the team’s delegation leader. He is accused of demanding physical affection, including hugs, kisses, and sexual favors, from several women during training camps and international friendly matches.

According to a reliable source, shortly after BolaNews published the exposé on April 12, FAM President Fleetwood Haiya personally contacted the victim, who confirmed the allegations.

“The president asked the lady if what Bola has published is true, and yes the lady agrees, saying every information is a true reflection of what happened when the team was in South Africa playing against the home team Banyana Banyana,” said the source.

“He then asked her if she was ready to tell the Commission of Enquiry what happened in South Africa; the lady told the president that she was ready to face the Commission of Enquiry.”

COSAFA Steps In: Victim Details Abuse in Official Report

On the same day the story went live, a COSAFA official based in South Africa also reportedly reached out to the victim to verify the report.

“It is true that COSAFA contacted her and she was told to write a report based on what happened.”

“She submitted the report on Monday, April 14. Basically, the report tackles areas like dates, what happened, the suspect, and whether she reported the incident to team officials or police,” the source added.

When approached for comment, FAM President Fleetwood Haiya said his office will provide information at the appropriate time.
