National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Bay FC acquired the forward from Madrid CFF for a fee reported to be €750,000, with potential add-ons of up to $75,000. Kundananji will be plying her trade for the U.S.-based side until 2027, with an option to add another year, according to Forbes.

The Copper Queen’s transfer to Bay FC has broken the record of €450,000 + €50,000 in possible add-ons paid by Chelsea FC to sign Mayra Ramirez from Levante FC last month.

BAY FC delighted to sign Kundananji

The NWSL side confirmed the signing of the 23-year-old in an official statement released on Tuesday.

Bay FC’s General manager, Lucy Rushton, confirmed, “We are delighted to add Racheal to our group. She is a tremendous talent with dynamic attacking qualities and an incredible physical profile who has produced for both club and country.”

“Racheal has a composure in-front of goal and a natural ability to score with different types of finishes and from various locations. We believe she will continue to grow and develop at our club, showcasing her skillset and adding to the array of exciting attacking talent we have here.”

During her time at Madrid CFF, the Copper Queen star was a force to be reckoned with. She recorded a tally of 25 league goals, guiding the club to a historic 5th finish. Her performances for Madrid CFF and Zambia saw her crowned the GOAL 50 Player of the Year, alongside Lionel Messi.

Kundananji will be joining Asisat Oshoala, who joined Bay FC this winter from FC Barcelona Femeni for €150,000.

With the 2024 season being Bay FC’s first in the US women’s top flight, the attacking African duo is bound to cause havoc for defenders in the NWSL.

Meanwhile, Kundananji has also become the first African player, male or female, to break a world transfer record.
