West Ham midfielder Katrina Gorry suffered an ankle injury while playing for her club in the Women’s Super League against Chelsea last week.

She was forced off the field after just 21 minutes as West Ham lost 2-0 to Chelsea in the league match. The ankle injury has cast doubt on Gorry’s Olympic participation in four months.

The 31-year-old, who left the stadium limping in a moon boot, later announced that her season with the Hammers was over.

Injuries hit Australia squad.

“I’ve spent the last few days sitting with my emotions. Now it’s time to face this next challenge and trust in my body to come back stronger and more in love with the game,” Gorry wrote in her social media post.

The Matildas may have to make do without the services of veteran midfielder Gorry at the Paris 2024 Olympics after the English club confirmed that Gorry will need to undergo surgery on her ankle in the coming days and will then begin her rehab program.
