On July 23 at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney, Australia, the French women’s national team will play Jamaica in their tournament’s opening game.

Having fallen to the United States in the semifinal of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, France, competing in their sixth World Cup, is hoping to make an impression this time around.

Wendie Renard, the captain of the European team, has rejoined the squad after having indicated earlier this year that she would be unable to compete in this year’s World Cup due to a mental health issue.

Renard, 32 has played for the U19, U20 and has made 145 appearances for the national team, scoring 34 goals featuring for France at two FIFA Womens World Cups.

However, according to FIFA.com France Captain Renard has expressed confidence in the head coach, Herve Renard and remains optimistic the team will perform better at the tournament.

Given that he has won significant trophies, we anticipate him to bring a lot of this knowledge to the position, the Club Lyon captain remarked.

“He is a coach with a lot of experience who has won at international level and is also charismatic.

Renard, we are not underestimating any team.

Renard stated that they will not understate their opponents but will remain determined to collect the much-needed results.

“Panama and Jamaica are lower down in the rankings is no guarantee that France will progress at their expense, as anything can happen in a football match. We will need to exercise caution because Panama is not a team we are accustomed to playing.
