Midfielder Kings Kangwa has attributed Zambia’s 2 – 0 loss to Morocco to ‘our own small mistakes,’ as Chipolopolo’s 2026 FIFA World Cup dream was shredded at a near full-to-capacity Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Chipolopolo were hoping to cause an upset against Morocco and jump to second in Group E with the hope of being in the frame to make it into the play-off positions by the end of the qualifiers.

However, despite having already qualified for the World Cup, the 2022 semi–finalists brought the game to Zambia and were aided by some schoolboy mistakes by Chipolopolo.

Morocco took the lead in the seventh minute through Youseef En Nesyri after a miscalculated back pass by Miguel Chaiwa to goalkeeper Toaster Nsabanta, before finishing off the game in the 46th minute through Hamza Igamane.

Kangwa, who was Chipolopolo’s captain on the day, took to social media to rue the rest.

“We lost the game from our own small mistakes…we must be more responsible in such games…[the] positive side [is that] we have a very good team, let’s keep working hard, and the future ahead of us is definitely bright.

The loss left Chipolopolo third in Group E with six points, at par with fourth–placed Niger, while second-placed Tanzania has 10 points.

Chipolopolo will play its next game on October 8 away to Tanzania before concluding their group games with a match against Niger at home on October 11.
