The Argentina women’s team held South Africa women’s team to a 2-2 draw in their Group G second-round match at the Forsyth Barr Stadium.
Linda Motlhalo put South Africa in the lead in the 31st minute and Thembi Kgatlana made it 2-0 for the African champions.
Romina Nunez, equalized for Argentina after Sophia Braun had scored for them in the 74th minute.
South Africa’s head coach Desiree Ellis told journalists that the team’s inability to take advantage of its opportunities is worrying.
“It is about taking our chances, that’s the problem, we don’t take them, it comes back at us every time. If we had taken our chances, we would have had a different conversation.
“We need to show a little bit extra effort, with our chances to win this game and again we just gave it away.
“When you create beautiful chances and don’t put them away, the result can end up like this. We were in complete control of the game, we just needed to finish off the game,” expressed the coach.

South Africa will play Italy on Wednesday in their final match in an effort to advance to the knockout rounds.
