Botswana Women’s team head coach Alex Malete has revealed his game plan for Saturday’s match against Zambia at the ongoing three-nation tournament in Pretoria, South Africa.

The Mares opened the series on a losing note, going down 3-2 to hosts Banyana Banyana.

Botswana will face the Copper Queens, on Saturday at 15:00 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Malete is using the tournament to assess his team’s readiness ahead of the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Malete also stated that he noted some improvements in the team’s performance against South Africa on Wednesday.

“I think in terms of getting the goodness, there’s improvement. We managed to score two, but there are other positives that we should take from this game, and there are other things that we really need to work on,” Malete said.

“Zambia Is A Tougher Opponent” – Malete.

“I thought in the first half we couldn’t use the ball well, especially in the buildup phase, but in the second half we were able to use the ball a bit better.”

Malete says he will analyse his team’s strengths as they face Zambia, whom he has described as a much tougher opponent.

The gaffer also hinted at giving key players more minutes.

“So from here, after these games we have, we have to sit down, look at the videos and be specific in terms of what it is that we need to maintain in our game plan and what it is that we need to improve in our game plan against Zambia. We are going to play a completely different game,” Malete said.

BFA.

“We are using this game to test different approaches to the game. Zambia is the extreme of what South Africa is. We are going to play completely differently in terms of how we set up, and it’s also about giving the core players some minutes and the upcoming players some minutes.”
