After 167 days of waiting, Temwa Chawinga is back to full fitness and she is in line for selection for Kansas City Current home match against NJ/NY Gotham FC on Sunday morning.
Chawinga sustained an injury on October 19 last year against Houston Dash in the NSWL league.
She suffered a right upper leg (adductor) injury, which led her to miss league matches, including Malawi’s crucial WAFCON qualification fixtures against Angola.
She last played for Malawi in February 2025 against Zambia in a friendly match.
Kansas City Current official Facebook page has made four posts announcing her return to action.
“Ready to put the league on notice. Every defender’s worst nightmare, one you can’t wake up from. Season 3 TEMVP starts tomorrow. The most lethal goalscorer is returning to the pitch,” read the posts.
It is expected that her return will help Kansas City bounce back to winning ways. In the 2026 season, Kansas is 13th in the 16-team league, having won once and lost three.
Chawinga won the golden boot award with 20 league goals in the 2024 season, last year she hit 15 goals.
