Australia Head Coach Tony Gustavsson has revealed that he is already planning on rebounding from Thursday’s 3-0 defeat against Germany in a Group B Olympic Women’s Football encounter.

The Matildas are third in the standings without a point and will face the Copper Queens on Sunday in their second match of the tournament.

The USA and Germany lead the standings with three points and will on the same day also go head-to-head, with either side qualifying for the next round with a win.

Zambia also lost 3-0 to the USA in their opening match of the tournament.

Gustavsson said the Australia has learned from its mistakes in their match against Germany. He believes the remaining matches provide a chance for his players to redeem themseleves.

“What we need to do now is learn from this game, delete it as soon as possible, have two days for Zambia, and hopefully we can make more people back home proud at that game,” Gustavsson said.

He added: “The fact that they [the fans] set the alarm to get up at 3 a.m. to support us is massive.

“I guess there’s a lot of disappointed fans out there. They might not think it was worth getting up. I promise you it’s worth it, because these players feel it and need it.”
