Malawi League defending champions Silver Strikers are struggling to defend their title following a 2-1 defeat to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets yesterday in Blantyre.

Silver lost at Kamuzu Stadium, with Bullets’ goals coming from Ephraim Kondowe and Hassan Kajoke, while Andrew Joseph scored the consolation goal for Silver.

The defeat sees Silver drop to third place on the league table, with Bullets opening a 10-point gap over them. Bullets now have 46 points from 19 games, Mighty Wanderers are second with 42 points from 18 games, and Silver sits on 36 points from 18 games.

Silver’s coach, Peter Mgangira, remains optimistic, insisting there are still games to play and the team can turn things around.

“We will take game by game; we will build it again and make sure we should not lose. Everything is possible in football; we will make sure we should not drop points in our next fixtures,” he said.

Reacting to the defeat, Mgangira partly blamed officiating, suggesting the result did not fully reflect the match.

“It was a good game against Bullets, we scored at first but we lost concentration and they scored and then scored another to win the match. Referee made some poor decisions. But we have lost and we have accepted. Everyone watched the game on TV,” he said.
