It’s only Week Seven in the Malawi Super League, but already four clubs have parted ways with their coaches. The latest are Dedza Dynamos and Creck Sporting, who have dismissed Andrew Bunya and former Malawi legend Joseph Kamwendo, respectively.

However, the leadership of the Malawi Football Coaches Association has expressed concern over the early dismissals, warning that more job losses could follow as clubs continue to place unrealistic expectations on coaches.

Association chairperson Aubrey Nankhuni also criticised coaches for signing contracts without seeking proper legal advice or consulting the association.

“We have been telling them [coaches] to show us their contracts before putting pen to paper so that we can go through them and advise if they need to sign or not, even negotiating for more, but usually once they find the job they ignore us, they are super excited with those contracts. See what is happening now?” wonders Nankhuni.

The first coaching casualty this season was at newly promoted Songwe Border United, who replaced Enoch Mhone with Christopher Nyambose.

Next was Mzuzu City Hammers, whose coach Stevie Mkwinika resigned, claiming interference from club management. He has yet to be replaced.

On Tuesday, Dedza Dynamos announced the sacking of Andrew Bunya due to poor results, and shortly after, Creck Sporting suspended Joseph Kamwendo.

As the league heads into Week Seven, Nyasa Big Bullets sit at the top of the table with 15 points from five matches.
