Lumwana Radiants Football Club appointed former F.C. Muza Lameck Banda as head coach and former Livingston Pirates FC coach Bupe Chewe as assistant coach last month.

The northwestern-based club was last season relegated to the National League after just one season in the Super League and they will be hoping to bounce back next season.

However, their new coach, Banda, who helped Muza win promotion to the Super League and finish second to qualify for the Caf Confederations Cup, has laid out his plans for the 2023-24 season.

In an exclusive interview with BolaNews, he stated that he wants to ensure that the team is well-balanced and capable of competing favorably in the National League.

“I think they have been a good team all along; what we work on are a few areas to make sure that the team is balanced and be able to compete favourably,” he said. “Because somehow their level of play is low-tempo, so we just need to hype them a bit.”

“I think we need to reinforce the backline” – Banda

Banda added that he is looking to reinforce the team with the defense being his number one priority.

“For now, we are still observing, but I think we need to reinforce the backline…. Or let me just say the defence, including the goalkeepering department as well as the striking force.”

He also disclosed that getting back to the Super League with Lumwana is his ultimate objective.

“To get back to the Super League that’s the ultimate objective.”
