After leading his club to a historic promotion to the National Division One League, Vincent Chisanga, the head coach of the Chipata City Council Sport Club, has made hints about his resignation and his retirement from sport.

During the present playoffs in Lusaka, Chisanga made the comments on Friday after his club defeated Crown FC, the Central Province champions, 1-0. For the first time since the club’s founding in 2010, Chipata secured their spot in Zambia’s second division with their third straight victory.

When asked about his future ambitions for the team after securing promotion, Chisanga gave a rather unexpected response.

“As for now I don’t think I have any dream because am thinking of quitting football.”

The coach also avoided delving into plans for the upcoming season, leaving his future with the team hanging in the balance.

“We Will Respect His Decision” – Kasokomona.

“That’s a question for the future. Just like I said, I might be around, or I might not be around.”

Maxwell Kasokomona, the club president, recognized the coach’s feelings and stated that background talks would be made to decide the best course of action.

“Actually, I went to pick coach Vincent from his office begging saying I want you. He came on board and has been with us almost two years now. If he decides to resign, we will respect his decision.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the head coach’s future, Kasokomona emphasized that preparations for next season have already started.

“We are not going to rest. Today we just had a virtual meeting with the guys in Chipata back and come Wednesday we are having our first meeting to start planning for next season.”

Chipata City Council will be the sole representative from Eastern Province in the men’s National Division One League next season, following the relegation of Chipata United at the end of the last campaign.

Established in 2010, the club will now compete at the national level for the first time, and their promotion is a historic milestone.
