Chipolopolo Boys interim coach George Lwandamina, has full support of the FA to lead the national team through the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign.
This was revealed by Godfrey Chikumbi, FAZ media manager, when he featured on Millennium Radio’s Bola Review program on Monday.
“You asked about the Chipolopolo. I don’t want us to delve into that, but I’ll tell you that in football there’s no such thing as interim” Chikumbi said.
Chikumbi reaffirmed that FAZ’s immediate focus is on ensuring Zambia qualifies for the 2027 AFCON tournament, instead of engaging in discussions about future coaching appointments.
“We don’t want to divert the attention from the tasks that we have. The big task we have is that we have to qualify for the Pamoja AFCON. That’s what is at stake right now. We shall cross the bridge when we reach it. At the moment, there’s a coach called Chicken George Lwandamina,” Chikumbi said.
“Let’s support George” – Chikumbi.
He further highlighted what he described as positive signs for Zambian football, noting that for the first time the country had two national teams competing simultaneously at a high level.
While the senior Chipolopolo squad was in Buenos Aires, Argentina, another national side was competing at the Mukuru Cup in Botswana, where Zambia reached the final before narrowly missing out on the title after losing to Zimbabwe.

“You saw what happened. The boys reached the finals of the Mukuru tournament, and there were flashes of brilliance. They showed plenty of industry there” he said.
Chikumbi urged football fans to support the local technical bench as the team embarks on its AFCON qualification journey.
“For now, let’s just support Coach Chicken George because the president of the Football Association of Zambia and his executive have elected to support him. We have to keep faith in our local coaches,” he said.
