Kashala claims there’re attempts to disqualify him from FAZ presidential race

Kashala filed his nomination for the FAZ top job on Thursday, but he claims that attempts are being made to disqualify him from the race.

‘If I wasn’t eligible, I would not be wasting my time here,’ were the words of former Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) general secretary Adrian Kashala after filing in nominations to challenge for the FAZ top job.

Kashala becomes the latest football administrator looking to unseat Andrew Kamanga. The former Zambia Police Sports Director has pushed in his papers.

Kashala told journalists that there could be maneuvers to knock him out of the race on a technicality of having not belonged to a football club for the last three years.

However, he contends that FIFA and FAZ statutes are clear on his eligibility and those who think he does not qualify to stand are hallucinating.

“We will go in [the election]. For those who are hallucinating out there, that ‘no, he is not a eligible’, let them continue hallucinating,” he said.

Having journeyed the football landscape since 2002, Kashala said there would be no way he would be lining up to stand for the FAZ presidency had he known that he was not eligible.

“I am a lawyer, by the way, and I understand what I am doing. If I wasn’t eligible, I would not waste my time. I wouldn’t embarrass myself to come and stand here,” he said.

The elective annual general meeting has been set for March 29 in Livingstone.
