African representatives, Tunisia, could be heading home on Wednesday next week after suffering a 0-1 defeat to Australia in their second group-stage match

The Carthage Eagles who have never reached the knockout stage in their previous five appearances at the showpiece in 1978, 1998, 2002, 2006, and 2018, first drew nil-nil with Denmark in their opener but conceded today to suffer their first defeat in the competition this year.

It was an evenly matched first half but the Australian proved to be a better side despite having fewer chances as they found the back of the net through striker Mitchell Duke who headed home a goal that separated the two sides in the 23rd minute and eventually was the winner.

The result meant Australia have moved to the second position of Group C with 3 points and redeemed their chances of making it to the round of 16 if they beat Denmark in their final group match.

Tunisia who are yet to score a goal in Qatar on the other hand risk getting eliminated from the competition as they need to pick up maximum points in their final group stage match against France on Wednesday.

They are now rock bottom of the group with only a point and no goal from their last two matches.
