Morocco’s impressive performance at the 2022 World Cup has not gone unnoticed, with AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho expressing his admiration for the country’s spirited and tactical display.

Mourinho has said that the Atlas Lions have excellent talent and a good tactician in Walid Regragui.

“The coach organized the team very well, starting with 4-3-3, he was able to change during the game to 5-4-1. He saw the danger, Portugal accumulating lots of players in finishing areas and he found a way to control the game,” said Mourinho on the Morocco vs Portugal game on Saturday.

Morocco defeated the Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal 1-0 to secure a place in the semifinals in a victory that saw them become the first African nation to ever reach the last four.

“They have individuals, Yassine Bounou was an individual during the competition; Sofyan Amrabat, I know him from Italian football; he’s a very good player; but their number 8, the young boy that plays in France in Angers, Ounahi, was absolutely incredible.”

Following their historic performance so far, Atlas Lions coach Regragui has received praise for his precise tactical decisions, which have made them difficult to beat at this year’s FIFA World Cup having only conceded an own goal in their last five games.

Morocco will face reigning World Cup champions France tomorrow in the hopes of becoming the first African country to ever qualify for the World Cup final.
