Argentina beat Mexico 2-0 last night as they kept their final hopes of advancing to the round of 16 alive.
Second-half goals from Lionel Messi and Enzo Fernandez were enough to secure the first three points for Argentinian sides that lost their opening match to Saudi Arabia with a 2-1 scoreline.
Messi said the victory was a huge relief for his side and it is a weight off their shoulders as they risked early elimination.

“This win is a relief for the dressing room and a great joy for us,” he said. “We paid a heavy price for losing the first game. There were many factors behind that defeat. Today we knew we had to win and start another world cup journey and as a team, we know how to do it.”
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner also took to Instagram and wrote.
“We had to win and we could do it. There’s another final coming up on Wednesday and we have to keep fighting altogether, Let’s go Argentina!”
Messi’s stunning goal against Mexico last night meant the PSG forward had equaled his country’s legend Diego Maradona’s 8 goals tally at the World cup and both achieved the feat in 21 games.
He also became the first player in the history of the World Cup to provide five assists at the finals when he set up Fernandez for Argentina’s second goal.
Argentina will play Poland on Wednesday in a must-win encounter for them to progress to the last 16 of the tournament.
