Luis Suarez sends warning to Ghana ahead of World Cup clash

"We know them, we have beaten them before and we know how to beat them again," he says.

Many Africans remember Luis Suarez for his infamous handball save that denied Ghana a chance to progress to the semifinals of the 2010 South Africa FIFA World Cup.

Suarez stopped the ball which was headed for the back of the net with his hands and Ghana were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes only for Asamoah Gyan to miss the subsequent penalty.

The match was later decided on penalty shoutouts which Ghana lost to bow out of the competition.

Since then, Suarez has been viewed as a villain, especially in Africa and 12 years later, the Black Stars have a chance to avenge that defeat at the ongoing Qatar World Cup as both teams are in the same group and will clash in their final Group H match on Friday.

Speaking ahead of the match, Suarez who started from the bench in Uruguay’s last match against Portugal said they will not have a problem beating Ghana as they have done it before.

“Ghana is a good team,” he said. “But we know them, we have beaten them before and we know how to beat them again.”

It is expected to be an emotional game as the Black Stars will seek revenge and a round of 16 slot while Uruguay who have not had a good start to their 2022 World Cup campaign will look to frustrate the Africans again and hope to remain in the competition.

Ghana sits second in Group H with 3 points having won one match, 2-3 against South Korea, and lost 2-3 to Portugal who are on top of the group table with 6 points.

The Black Stars will only need a point in their last match to qualify for the round of 16.

Uruguay on the other hand have not won a single match after drawing 0-0 with South Korea and losing 2-0 to Portugal to sit at rock bottom of the group with only a point.
