Former Chipolopolo goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene says Mamelodi Sundowns will pick up right where they left off when they face Borussia Dortmund at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup on Saturday.

The Brazilians opened their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ulsan HD and are among four African clubs participating in the tournament. Notably, Sundowns are the only African team yet to lose a match in this year’s competition.

They now prepare to face German giants Borussia Dortmund in their second Group F match.

Speaking in a telephone interview on ZNBC’s Radio 4 sports program, Mweene admitted the match would be tough but believes the pressure is not on Sundowns.

“It will be a difficult match, but the pressure is not on us; the pressure is on them. For us it’s important we keep the boys motivated and focused,” Mweene said.

“We are here to dish out the talent we have in Africa, and the boys never disappointed. The first game we played, we got the three points which was important; we will just continue where we left.”

The 2012 AFCON-winning goalkeeper also praised the team’s growth and improved performance.

“It has been amazing; every now and then there is improvement. The last time I was here, in 2016, I think there was a lot of change and difference. So far so good for us; we won our first game. It wasn’t easy. All the teams that are here are good teams; there are no pushovers. At the World Cup no big team and small team, people compete at the highest level,” added Mweene.

Sundowns are placed in Group F alongside Fluminense, Borussia Dortmund, and Ulsan HD. To reach the round of 16, they must finish in the top two.

The winners of the tournament will walk away with $40 million, while the runners-up will pocket $30 million.
