“It’s Good For Africa” – Mweene On The Upcoming FIFA Club World Cup

Kennedy Mweene, a former goalie for the Chipolopolo, says the moment has come for Africa to showcase their skills at the FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States of America.

Sundowns are among Four African teams representing the continent at the global tournament. 

The Brazilians secured their place at the FIFA Club World Cup based on their consistent participation in the CAF Champions League. 

Sundowns is in Group F with Korea Republic Ulsan HD, Borussia Dortmund of Germany, and Fluminense FC of Brazil.

Speaking in an interview on SABC Sport, the Sundowns goalkeeper coach said the tournament is a good motivation for African teams. 

Mweene.

“I think it’s good for Africa because last time it was only maybe two teams or one, but this time around four which gives us a chance as Africa aswell even though the numbers we are still crying about the number,”he said. 

Mweene feels it’s now time for Africa to expose their talent. 

“Nevertheless we just have to go and show our case that side we know that it won’t be easy, it’s a high profile tournament and every one knows including the boys they know what we are going there to do and it won’t be easy, but we have to showcase our talent we have got in South Africa and Africa at large,”noted Mweene. 

Meanwhile, The tournament will take place between 14th June and July 13th, 2025 in the USA. 

The other African teams that are competing are Al Ahly, Wydad and Esperance de Tunis.
