Leicester City’s Premier League survival hopes suffered a blow on Monday afternoon when they were defeated 5-3 by Fulham.
Willian, Carlos Vinicius, and Tom Cairney scored for Fulham, while James Maddison’s penalty and Harvey Barnes’ brace were consolation goals for Leicester City.
Maddison and Patson Daka, who came off the bench in the 76th minute, both assisted Barnes for the Foxes’ second and third goals.
Leicester City remain in the relegation zone with 30 points after their defeat. They must now win their remaining games if they are to avoid relegation.
The defeat allowed two relegation-threatened teams, Everton and Nottingham Forest, to drag the Foxes deeper into trouble on Monday.
Can Leicester City survive relegation?
Reacting to the result on Monday, Leicester City boss Dean Smith was disappointed with the loss.
“Really disappointed with how we started the game. I think we set our stall all wrong, we weren’t quick enough. The performance in the first half was nowhere near what it has been….. And what the players can produce,” bemoaned Smith via LCFC TV.
“I am disappointed because I didn’t see that coming. We had a good week in training, good attitude, good application, good quality. I expected a far better performance and a better start to the game than we got. At this level, if you give the kind of goals away that we gave away it’s going to be an uphill battle.”
Smith who replaced Brendan Rodgers a month ago, is, however, confident the team still has what it takes to survive relegation.
“I believe there is enough quality to survive. There are signs I had seen prior to the first half today that they are good enough. The first half certainly was a step backwards, the second half was a step forwards again. We have to make sure we put in a 90 minute performance next week.”

Leicester City are remaining with three games vs Liverpool, Newcastle, and West Ham.
They will host Liverpool next Monday in their quest in what will be a battle for Champions League and survival between the two teams respectively.
