Manchester City took control of the Premier League title race on Wednesday night, defeating pacesetter Arsenal 4-1 as Erling Haaland broke yet another record.
Three straight draws saw Arsenal put City in the driver’s seat before the Gunners’ trip to the Etihad Stadium.
Belgium midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne took center stage, scoring twice and setting up John Stones for the Cityzens’ third goal of the night.
Arsenal’s Rob Holding grabbed a late consolation, but it was too late as City’s Norwegian goal-machine Haaland added the icing on the cake with the fourth goal in injury time to break the Premier League record for the most goals in a 38-game season.
Haaland breaks Salah’s record
Haaland broke Mohamed Salah’s 32-goal record in a single Premier League campaign which he set in 2017-18 with Liverpool.
The Norwegian netted his 33rd goal of the season in the Premier League for Manchester City.
With seven games left, Haaland is looking to also break the overall record of 34 goals, shared by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer in 42-game campaigns early in the Premier League era.

Across all competitions, he has netted 49 goals in 43 games while providing 8 assists.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s loss last night meant, City can now overtake them if they win their two games in hand.
The Gunners are topping the table with 75 points in 33 games and behind them are City who have 73 points in 31 games.

Arsenal will face Chelsea, Newcastle, Brighton Nottingham Forest, and Wolves in their remaining league match.
Manchester City, on the hand, will play Fulham, West Ham, Leeds, Chelsea, Brighton, and Brentford.
