Riyad Mahrez wins fifth Premier League title

The Algerian is now the most decorated African player in the English Premier League.

Riyad Mahrez and Manchester City won the Premier League after Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, before their match against Chelsea on Sunday. This was the club’s third consecutive trophy.

The accomplishment made Algeria’s Mahrez, the most decorated African in the Premier League.

BELOW ARE THE TOP THREE AFRICAN PLAYERS WITH THE MOST PREMIER LEAGUE TITLES

1. RIYAD MAHREZ

The 2016 African Footballer of the Year made his Premier League debut on 16 August 2014 and scored his first goal in the division on 4 October 2014 in a 2–2 draw with Burnley.

The 2019 African Champion was part of the Leicester team that won seven of its final nine matches of the season to avoid relegation to the Football League in that.

He now has five Premier League trophies to his name. His first came in 2016 while at Leicester City.

In the current campaign, Mahrez has scored 5 times after 28 matches taking his all-time tally to 82 goals.

2. Didier Drogba

The Ivorian was one of the prolific finishers for Chelsea’s success and lifted the Premier League on four occasions, scoring 164 goals for the Blues and winning the Champions League during his tenure.

The two-time African Footballer of the Year remains a Premier League legend and is the third-highest goal scorer in the Premier League with 104 behind Mohammed Salah (139) and Sadio Mane(111).

3. Yaya Toure

One of the best midfielders the Premier League has ever seen. Yaya did things that other footballers would only dream of. He featured for the men in Sky-blue 230 times, lifting the Premier League title three times.
