Arsenal have opened a six-point lead in the English Premier League after thrashing Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 on Sunday in the North London derby.
The match saw Eberechi Eze score a historic 35-minute hat-trick, becoming the first player to net a Premier League hat-trick in the North London derby.
“That’s a good one, man. Enjoyable day. Happy to help the team and to win today was a special,” Eze said in a post-match interview with Sky Sports.
“It’s special. I am grateful. I prayed for it. This is what I pray for. I prayed for a hat-trick so I am grateful to God. That was the prayer today. God gave it to me and that is faith, man. All my family is here and that makes it even more special for me.”
Leandro Trossard opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 36th minute before Eze added the second in the 41st minute, heading the Gunners into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Eze struck again immediately after the restart in the 46th minute, extending Arsenal’s advantage. Although Richarlison pulled one back for Tottenham with a long-range strike past David Raya, it was not enough to stop Eze from completing his hat-trick in the 76th minute, sealing a memorable victory.
Arsenal now top the Premier League after 12 games, six points clear of second-placed Chelsea, whom they face in their next league fixture on Sunday.
On Wednesday, they will host Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.
