Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has said he has long admired Zambian striker Patson Daka and that he has the potential to become a world-class finisher.

The Foxes recorded their third win of the season, beating West Ham 3-1 at the King Power Stadium.

Goals from Jamie Vardy, Bilal El Khannouss, and substitute Daka helped Leicester to a 3-1 victory, a first under new manager Van Nistelrooy.

Daka was introduced in the 60th minute in place of veteran striker Vardy, who scored the first goal within two minutes.

The Zambian striker capped off his night with a beautiful solo run after losing his marker to slot home using his left foot and beyond the goalkeeper’s reach into the roof of the net.

In his post-match interview, Van Nistelrooy admitted to being a long-time admirer of the Chipolopolo striker, who returned from an ankle injury to play only his third match of the season.

“I think he’s probably the player I have seen the most of; also, at a young age, when he was at Salzburg, I was already following him,” van Nistelrooy said.

He added, “I was interested in him when I was PSV manager, to be honest.”

Van Nistelrooy also stated that the former Salzburg striker brings more than scoring to the squad but also the ability to create chances for the team.

“I think he has great potential; that’s what he showed in Austria, scoring a lot of goals and assisting a lot. It’s something that I saw in him; he’s only going to get better. Developing him on a daily basis, he’s got a lot of potential,” he concluded.

Leicester City’s next Premier League match will be on Sunday away to fourth-placed Brighton and Hove Albion.
