Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal side beat Newcastle United 2-0 on Sunday afternoon to keep their hopes of winning the Premier League title alive.

Goals from Martin Odegaard in the first half and Fabian Schar’s own goal in the second half were enough for the Gunners to record a resounding victory.

Arsenal have won their previous two games to help reduce the gap with league leaders Manchester City in their quest to win their first league title in 19 years.

After Sunday’s win, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told the media that the victory was a good revenge.

“It meant alot. It was a real test, they hurt our pride last year, we had to remember how we felt a year ago when we were here. Today had to be different. We had to play the game with a different level of implication, intelligence and maturity and we showed a real fight today and a desire to win,” Arteta said.

The Gunners boss urged his players to give in their best in the remaining fixtures in order to mount pressure on the league leaders.

“It’s been critical because it’s the most important part of the season, the nicest part of the season. Today we are second, but to play for the championship with three games to go against this team and win, it doesn’t get better than that.

“We have to keep going because you never know. We have to keep digging we have done it for 10 months, now is the moment to do it even harder than before,” concluded the coach.

Arsenal will now shift focus to their next game as they prepare to host Brighton on Sunday.

The Gunners are sitting second in the standings with 81 points and are remaining with three games against Brighton, Nottingham Forest, and Wolves.

Manchester City, on the other hand, has four more games to play as they lead the table with 82 points. They will face Everton, Chelsea, and Brighton before concluding the season away to Brentford.
