Arsenal kept alive their English premier league title hopes, as they confined Newcastle United to a rare home defeat.

The battle between the team in third and second lived to its expectation as the encounter had all the mouthwatering ingredients.

It was a game of shifting paradigms, but it was the home side that had the visitors back peddling at the start. The Magpies constant threats on goal did not pay dividends and had a penalty ruled out following a review of the evidence.

Martin Odegaard scored for the Gunners from 20 yards in the 14th minute. The Norwegian scored his 15th premier league goal of the season, totally against the run of play.
