Following the subpar performance of the Chipolopolo Boys in the COSAFA Cup, FC MUZA head coach Lameck Banda has written a word of encouragement to Chisi Mbewe, following the team’s worst-ever performance at the 2024 COSAFA edition.
Zambia, the 2023 COSAFA champions, lost 1-0 against Comoros and 2-0 to Kenya and Zimbabwe in the group stage.
For the first time ever, the Chipolopolo were eliminated from the regional championship game without netting a goal or earning a point.
Reacting to the performance of the team at the ongoing COSAFA Cup, Banda has described Mbewe’s situation at the helm of the local Chipolopolo as tough.
According to Banda, the fans are driven to become frustrated because they want to see their side win every game.
“I know the current situation is tough, but I want you to know that you’re not alone,” Banda said. “The fans are upset, but they’re upset because they care deeply about their national team. They want to see their team succeed, and so do you.”
Banda has urged Mbewe, who won a double last season with the Red Arrows, to reflect and pick up from his disappointing outing with the national team.

“Don’t let the criticism get you down. Instead, use it as fuel to drive you forward. Remember your why, your purpose, and your passion for the game. Draw on your strengths, learn from your mistakes, and trust your process. The tide will turn, and the wins will come. You are a capable and dedicated coach, and you will get through this,” Banda said.
