Former Chipolopolo coach Aggrey Chiyangi believes Zambia has been placed in a fair group at the 2025 Cosafa Cup tournament, which is scheduled for June this year.
Following Wednesday’s draw, Zambia was placed in Group D alongside Botswana and Comoros.
After a disappointing early exit in last year’s edition, the Chipolopolo boys will be looking to make a strong comeback and secure their 8th Cosafa Cup title.
Speaking exclusively to Bolanews.co, Chiyangi said he feels the group is favorable for Zambia.
“It’s a fair group that they have been put in and obviously everyone who is going to look at the group is going to conclude that Zambia is going to top the group,” said Chiyangi.

However, the former Green Eagles coach cautioned against underestimating their opponents, stressing the importance of preparation and clear objectives.
“What is important is what we want as Zambia, how we have prepared and also what are we targeting to achieve. Because looking at countries on paper is no longer the issue, what we have to know is that football has evolved and people are developing so once you underrate them they can give you a shock,” added Chiyangi.
“What is important is to know that we are going for a tournament and we have to qualify for the next stage and also focus on winning the Cup,” he emphasized.
Chiyangi previously guided the Chipolopolo boys to the 2019 Cosafa Cup final after beating Zimbabwe in the semifinals. He also led Zambia to the COSAFA Cup title in 2018.
