Following Mines United Chairman Matthew Mohan’s announcement of the appointment of a Council of Elders for the club, Council Chairman Danny Kabwe has outlined the roles and responsibilities of the newly formed body.
On Wednesday, Chairman Mohan officially confirmed that the club has established a Council of Elders with the aim of inspiring the team and bringing success to Mines United.
The Council will be led by Kabwe, with veteran coach Patrick Phiri as his deputy. Kenneth, Mordan Malitoli, and Frederick Kashimoto will serve as members.
The newly promoted side appears to be making strategic strides as it prepares for its debut in the 2025/26 Super League season.
Speaking exclusively to Bolanews, Kabwe praised Mines United for honouring the game’s veterans:
“The new kid in town has come up with this committee respecting former players and coaches and appreciating experience. Council of Elders is a board and I am happy that Mines United recognized us so that we can be role models to the team,” he said.
Council’s role explained
The former Power Dynamos boss also elaborated on the Council’s role:
“Our role is counsel the players by sharing best practices based on where we came from, errors that we made and show them the correct path. Give them the reality of football and helping the young lads to be upright,” he explained.
“The vision carrier is the president of the team, and he is planning big. Ours is just to support his vision and add value to it.
“The targets and planning are for president and technical staff. If we can add value by the way we shall counsel the team and players with the vast experience of my Council, I am sure the skill will be the limit,” noted Kabwe.
With numerous reinforcements and structural changes expected to take place at the club, Mines United is expected to put on a solid performance in the upcoming season.
Having risen from the lower divisions to secure their first-ever promotion to the Super League, Mines United enter the top tier with high hopes and ambitions of making a strong impact in the elite league.
