Budding Zambian defender David Hamasenya, who recently signed a four-year contract with Spanish club C.D. Leganés, has expressed his excitement after penning his first professional deal.
Hamasenya caught the eye at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he featured in all of Zambia’s matches and earned praise from fans.
Speaking to BolaNews about his breakthrough move to Leganés, Hamasenya said: “It is a dream come true. I felt excited and happy. I am proud of myself for signing with a club like Leganés, it showed me that hard work really pays.”
The 18-year-old, who is currently playing for the club’s youth team, is determined to continue improving and eventually break into the senior side. “I want to improve every day. I want to help my team win matches,” he stated.

Last month, Hamasenya received his first senior national team call-up for Zambia’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Morocco, which ended 2-0 in favor of the North Africans. Although he was an unused substitute, he remains optimistic about establishing himself in the senior squad.
“I want to make a strong impact in the national team,” he said confidently. “My target is to work hard and break into the senior team’s starting eleven, not just being part of the squad.”
