Zambian players abroad weekend wrap | Sakala ends ten-game goal drought

Sakala ended his goal drought in the Saudi Pro League while several other Zambians were also in action over the weekend.

Fashion Sakala Jr. put Al Fayha on the cusp of retaining their Saudi Pro League status after scoring a cracking goal in their 2-0 win over Al Akhdood. He effortlessly controlled a long ball with his chest on the left wing before leaving his marker for dead and poking the ball into the net.

The forward has scored eight goals and made four assists in 29 league games this season. His goal also ended a ten-game drought in the league.

Elsewhere, Lubambo Musonda set up 1. FC Magdeburg’s second goal in their 4-2 thumping of Fortuna Düsseldorf on the final day of the Bundesliga 2 campaign. The Chipolopolo skipper has contributed to five goals in 15 league games in Germany, scoring once and assisting four times.

Rodrick Kabwe, Liteta get first goals for their clubs.

In the Iraqi Premier League, Rodrick Kabwe broke his scoring duck for Al Gharraf, nodding in their opening goal in their 2-0 win vs. Mosul Sports Club. The left back has kept five clean sheets in 13 league starts for the club.

Joseph Liteta concluded his first season in Italy by notching his first goal for Cagliari U20, who thrashed Udinese U20 4-0 in the Italian youth league. Alongside a Copa Italia Primavera gold medal, he recorded one goal and an assist in 32 games played in all club competitions.

Meanwhile in Tanzania, Clatous Chama came off the bench to set up Mudathir Yahya’s late goal in Young Africans SC’s 2-0 win against JKT Tanzania in the Federation Cup. Kennedy Musonda featured in added time as the Tanzanian champions secured a place in the final.

Kingstone Mutandwa remained on the bench during Cagliari Calcio’s 3-0 victory over Venezia as they secured their place in the 2025-26 Italian Serie A season. In contrast, US Lecce failed to escape the relegation zone despite a 1-0 win over Torino as Lameck Banda watched from the dugout.

Temwa Chawinga stuns Barbra Banda and co., Daka makes cameo in Leicester City win

Barbra Banda started, Prisca Chilufya was a substitute while Grace Chanda was unfielded as Orlando Pride fell 1-0 to Kansas City Current via a Temwa Chawinga goal.

Elsewhere, Racheal Kundananji played the first 69 minutes in Bay FC’s 2-0 triumph over Angel City.

In England, Patson Daka featured in the 80th minute of Leicester City’s 2-0 victory against Ipswich Town.

Mabika earns second consecutive cleansheet, Joshua Mutale features in CAF Confederations Cup final

Aime Mabika notched a second cleansheet in as many games for Rhode Island, who walloped Tampa Bay 3-0. In the Chinese Super League, Stopilla Sunzu clocked 90 minutes in Changchun Yatai’s 2-1 defeat to Tianjin Jinmen Tiger.

In Simba SC’s 2-0 loss to RS Berkane in the CAF Confederations Cup final first leg, Joshua Mutale came off the bench in the 80th minute. Meanwhile, Gift Mphande was a substitute in Hapoel Rishon Lezion’s final league match against Hapoel Kfar Shelem.

Chaiwa, Benson Sakala unfieled, Evans Kangwa comes off the bench for Abha

Miguel Chaiwa did not come on for BSC Young Boys, who decimated Swiss champions Basel 6-2 on Sunday. On the other hand, Joseph Sabobo Banda was unavailable fo FC Zurich against St Gallen.

Evans Kangwa and Golden Mafwenta featured off the bench for Abha in Saudi Arabia and Metalist 1925 in Ukraine, respectively. Meanwhile, Benson Sakala was an unused substitute for Mlada Boleslav and Emmanuel Banda was not in Al Tai’s matchday squad in Saudi Arabia.
