The 21-year-old became just the 10th Zambian player in history to score a goal in Europe’s top five leagues.

Hence BolaNews unveils the list of Zambian players to score a goal in the first-tier divisions of England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France.

FRENCH LIGUE 1

Stopilla Sunzu (Sochaux/Lille): 5 goals

After firing Zambia to 2012 African Cup of Nations (AfCON), Sunzu reunited with his winning-coach Herve Renard at FC Sochaux, where he scored four league goals. Interestingly, the centre-back did not lose any of the five Ligue 1 matches he scored in, winning four.

Emmanuel Mayuka (Sochaux): 4 goals

Despite failing to register a single Premier League goal at Southampton, Mayuka scored four Ligue 1 goals during his loan spell at FC Sochaux in 2013–14.

Jacob Mulenga (Strasbourg): 1 goal

Mulenga made history as the first Zambian to score a goal in the French top flight. He achieved this milestone by netting a late goal in Strasbourg’s 3-0 victory over Saint Étienne in 2008.

GERMANY BUNDESLIGA

Christopher Katongo (Armenia Bielefeld): 3 goals

Andrew Sinkala (Augsburg): 3 goals

Sinkala, who spent nearly his whole career in Germany, scored three goals for FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga. The former Chipolopolo center-back also represented FC Bayern Munich in the early 2000s.

Moses Sichone (Köln): 1 goal

While playing for 1. FC Köln in Germany, Sichone got his name on a Bundesliga scoresheet when he scored a consolation goal in his side’s 3-1 defeat to Alemannia in 2007. He currently serves as an assistant coach to Avram Grant for the Zambian men’s national team.

ITALIAN SERIE A

Lameck Banda (US Lecce): 4 goals

Kingstone Muntandwa (Cagliari): 1 goal

His goal on the final day of the season in Cagliari’s 3-2 defeat to Fiorentina made him just the second Zambian to score in the Italian top flight.

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Patson Daka (Leicester City): 9 goals

Despite a number of Zambian players plying their trade in England as early as the 1960s, Patson Daka became the first Zambian to score a goal in the Premier League in 2021.

Enock Mwepu (Brighton & Hove Albion: 2 goals)

Prior to hanging up his boots in 2022, Enock Mwepu was a goalscorer in the Premier League against league heavyweights Liverpool and Arsenal.

SPANISH LA LIGA

The Spanish La Liga is the only league amongst Europe’s elite where a Zambian has yet to score a goal. However, Enock’s brother, Francisco Mwepu, is the only Zambian to debut in the competition, doing so for Cadiz in 2023.
