Zambian defender Aime Mabika is already a fan favorite for Toronto FC, just a month after making his debut.

The consistent and monstrous performances of the 24-year-old since arriving at the club in April have left the fans excited.

The colossal center-back joined the Canadian-based club following a transfer from Inter Miami CF that cost over $100,000.

On Saturday evening local time, Toronto FC hosted Nashville SC at BMO Field Stadium in an exciting MLS encounter that ended in a 1-1 draw.

Former Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne got the lead for the home side in 38 minutes. His goal came after cutting inside onto his right foot and curling in an absolute screamer from outside the box.

The visitors then began to pile up some pressure in the second half against Toronto FC. Nashville looked certain to get the lead in the 69th minute when Mukhtar beat the goalkeeper, but Chipolopolo defender Mabika came to the rescue with a clearance off the line.

To the dismay of Toronto FC, a ridiculous error from goalkeeper Sean Johnson just seconds later undid Mabika’s work as Nashville drew level.

Toronto eventually settled for a valuable point against a Nashville outfit that is ranked second in the MLS Eastern Conference League.

Mabika wows Toronto fans

Chipolopolo newbie Aime Mabika delivered yet another top-notch performance for Toronto FC, and fans are already loving it.

He put in a Man of the Match performance last night, recording the best pass accuracy of any starter (97.5%), the most clearances (5), aerial duels won (5), and a last-man clearance against Nashville SC.

One fan, @JohnieRoastbeef, wrote, “Mabika has been the MVP (most valuable player) since arriving from Miami.”

“If you don’t appreciate the work that Franklin and Mabika put in, this is not the sport for you,” @RBuchel added.

@Jdhxrry applauded, “[Mabika is] currently our best player”.

Meanwhile, Zambian football fans are finally relieved and jubilant after acquiring Mabika as an official Chilolopolo international. The center-back is tipped to form a solid defensive partnership with Frankie Musonda for the Copper Bullets.

If Mabika can replicate his performances for his national team, Zambians should be excited for what’s to come.

For now, the Chipolopolo will play host to Ivory Coast at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola on June 17. They will battle for qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
