Chipolopolo defender Frankie Musonda has signed a one-year contract with Bahrain SC after leaving Scottish Championship side Ayr United in May.
Musonda, who was a free agent, agreed terms with the Bahraini club before the recent international window and has already made his debut.
The 27-year-old confirmed the move in an Instagram post, writing: “Been out here for a while now but happy to finally share with you my new home for the season, here in Bahrain with @bahrain_club_1936.”
Musonda joined Ayr United from Raith Rovers in June 2022 and extended his stay with a one-year deal last year. However, the 2023/24 season proved difficult for the Brentford-born defender, as recurring injuries limited him to just 16 appearances.
He started only 11 matches, recording one assist, and missed several key fixtures — including Zambia’s 5–0 loss to Russia in an April international friendly. He was also left out of the match-day squad in Zambia’s September 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Morocco.
Despite his setbacks, Musonda departed Ayr United having made 71 appearances — the most at any club in his career — scoring five goals and registering three assists.
He was also instrumental in Ayr’s strong campaign that came close to securing promotion to the Scottish Premiership last season.
