Estonia-based Zambian defender Ricky Chanda has revealed his thoughts on his omission from the 55-man provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
He also discussed Benjamin Chisala’s goalscoring form at Nomme United FC while speaking exclusively to BolaNews.
Chanda joined Nomme United at the beginning of the year after parting ways with Lithuanian side FK Riteriai, whom he led to top-flight promotion in 2024. Before moving to Europe, Chanda was on the books of City of Lusaka, Atletico Lusaka FC, and Barça Academy.

The 20-year-old was exceptional for Nomme United this year, helping them win the Esiliga title and earn promotion to the Estonian Meistriliiga. He scored seven goals, provided four assists, and kept 13 clean sheets in 33 league matches for the club during the 2025 campaign.
Chanda, boasting both defensive tenacity and composure on the ball, has primarily featured as a center back for his side but can also double as a midfielder and full back.
“Time will come” – Chanda.
Speaking about his versatility to BolaNews, Chanda said, “I have been asked to play in midfield, defense, or at right back. It’s about where the coach wants me to play. I played some matches in midfield because of injuries in the team, but I prefer playing as a center back. However, I wouldn’t say I can’t consider playing as a midfielder in the future.”
Chanda has previously represented Zambia at the U17 COSAFA Cup, inspiring them to the final in 2020 and 2021.
When Moses Sichone unveiled his 55-member provisional squad for the 2025 AFCON, Ricky Chanda was one of the surprising omissions.
“No one is entitled to the national team. You just have to work hard and the time will come,” Chanda told BolaNews.
In September, Benjamin Chisala joined Chisala at Nomme United, on a loan deal from Atletico Lusaka FC. About his relationship with Chisala, Chanda commented, “When he joined, he asked me questions about the club, and I told him how things work here.”
Benjamin Chisala wasted no time announcing himself to Estonian football, scoring nine goals and providing three assists in just 10 league matches for Nomme United.
“About his form? What more can I say? His performances speak for themselves. He did settle in very quickly. It’s like he’s been at the club for a year,” Chanda praised Chisala.
He signed permanently for Nomme United in December. Meanwhile, Ricky Chanda said he is looking forward to the upcoming season, hoping to produce some noteworthy performances in the top flight.
