The omission of Mufulira Wanderers defender Owen Mwamba from Zambia’s final squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has shocked Allan Kamwanga Jr, a former Power Dynamos and Mufulira Wanderers defender.
On Wednesday, Chipolopolo coach Moses Sichone, unveiled his final 28-man squad for the Morocco tournament, trimming his initial 55-player provisional squad.
Zambia will compete in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Mali, and Comoros when the competition kicks off on December 21.
Mwamba, widely regarded as one of the most consistent and composed defenders in the MTN Super League this season, has earned praise for his solid defensive work and ability to deliver key goals for Wanderers.
Reacting to the omission, Kamwanga said he was struggling to understand the decision.
“I’m shocked that Owen Mwamba has been left out of the squad. In my opinion, he deserves a spot on the national team. His versatility, work ethic, and composure on the ball make him an asset,” he said.
Kamwanga added that the national team needs to begin integrating more emerging talent.

“I think it’s time for some fresh faces in the national team. We’ve given many players opportunities, and now it’s time to give new talent a chance to shine. Owen Mwamba has proven himself, and I believe he deserves an opportunity to prove himself on the national stage.”
He encouraged Mwamba and other young players not to lose heart.
“To all the young players out there, don’t let setbacks discourage you. Keep pushing, keep grinding. Your time will come.”
