Lameck Banda purchased a brand new Mercedes-Benz car for his wife, Abigail Chato, as a gift, sending social media into a frenzy. The law graduate revealed her new car on Friday through her Instagram account, expressing gratitude to the Copper Bullets winger for his romantic gesture.
The couple, who have been together for over a year, recently welcomed their first child in March before officially tying the knot in June. An entrepreneur and health influencer, Banda’s wife bagged a law degree from the University of Zambia (UNZA) in May this year.
Banda faced criticism for his decision to ditch Italian Serie A outfit US Lecce for Libyan side Swehly SC ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
The 25-year-old joined Swehly SC on an improved salary compared to his wages at Lecce. Banda, a husband and parent, the financial aspect of the game will be just as important as the sporting side of it.
Financial considerations in football was also highlighted by Copper Queens star Barbra Banda, who justified her decision to stay at US side, Orlando Pride instead of trekking to Europe. After becoming one of the highest-paid women’s footballers, Banda admitted that securing the bag is just as crucial.
The striker added that she would not want to be a subject of ridicule in the future if she were to face financial hurdles because of making contract decisions on sporting aspects only.
Banda came in a substitute in a 3-1 defeat to Algeria on Friday.
He will be looking to earn a place in the starting XI as Zambia host Togo at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on September 29.
